McLaughlins, von Coellns & Extended Family
Members of a Rotary club are part of a diverse group of professional leaders working to address various community and international service needs and to promote peace and understanding throughout the world. As business leaders in Southern California, several of the von Coelln, Schaber and Pollok family were members of their local Rotary club. In these photos from 1938, it appears that the District Conference meeting was held at Avalon on Catalina Island. There are several photos of Sam Gates, District Governor and a member of the Santa Monica Rotary Club, leading the festivities. Apparently it was Southern California Rotary District 108 which is now District 5340 and would have included many clubs visiting Avalon. The individuals above with numbers next to them are: #1 Earle R Pollok (on the lead horse to the right of the stagecoach), #2 FM Paulson, #3 Sam E Gates |
