Nice writeup Eric. We totally agree about using game mechanics to incent engagement with brands and content, and our customers (including NBC, Comcast, USA Network, Warner Brothers, etc.) are seeing great results.

We also agree on the social spam. We recently released a "Broadcaster" widget that enables users on our customer's sites to broadcast to Facebook and Twitter whenever they win a trophy or level up, but we throttle these messages to a max of 3/day and only try to send achievements of note, and not any old thing.

I just ran across your blog and am enjoying it. Would love to show you a demo of our Nitro platform and see what you think, ping me if you're interested.

best, - rajat
