McLaughlins, von Coellns & Extended Family
Opened in 1929, the Casino at Avalon became a key icon of Catalina. Mr. Wrigley had built a smaller version of the building, called Sugarloaf Casino, in the same spot eight years earlier to serve as an entertainment and gathering place for the Islands visitors but soon realized that the building was too small to accommodate the growing visitation to the Island.¹ Many of the pictures of the Casino above were taken by E.R. Pollok in 1940.
